Is Black Butte Ranch Police right for you?

Located just inside the entrance of Oregon's Black Butte Ranch, our Police Department provides protection and community support to our residents and guests 24/7.

The Black Butte Ranch Police Department (BBRPD) is a small and unique department located in the Northwest corner of Deschutes County. We are one of two police service districts in Oregon and are responsible for maintaining the safety, security, and tranquility of Black Butte Ranch. The current structure of the Department consists on a Chief of Police, a Lieutenant who serves as the Operations Commander, and four officers. We are additionally supported by an administrative manager and two volunteers.

The Department is also in the process of hiring on-call officers and students to fill a new seasonal bike patrol program.

One of our employees recently described BBRPD as a DYI department. That comment was not a reference to things being broken, but as an observation that due to our small size, you will be involved in variety of projects  in addition to your patrol duties. For example, if the Department is looking for a new piece of equipment, anyone can get involved and conduct the research on the equipment. They may also handle communications with vendors, and may ultimately be handling the order, installation, and training on the equipment. In larger departments these tasks might be handled by separate departments such as administration, purchasing, training, and IT all before the line staff became involved. When an officers take-home car needs an oil change, they are responsible for arranging the service with our mechanic.

Having all employees involved in some of the daily tasks of the Department is not only a necessity, but it provides our employees with a  sense of ownership and pride in the agency.
