On-Call Requirements and Qualifications
The process is only open to lateral and prior law-enforcement officers from within the State of Oregon
This document is intended to provide information regarding the requirements and qualifications of the Black Butte Ranch Police Department in order to be considered for an on-call police officer position. Applicants should also become familiar with the Black Butte Ranch Police Officer Job description prior to applying for the position.
Requirements and Qualifications:
- Must be at least 21 years of age
- Must be a U.S. citizen
- Must not have been convicted of any crime punishable as a felony in any jurisdiction or a crime involving domestic violence (applicants with lesser criminal records will be evaluated on an individual basis)
- Must not have any discharge less than honorable from any branch of the military
- Must possess a valid Oregon driver's license within 2 months of hire, with acceptable driving record
- Minimum 3 years of prior law enforcement experience
- Applicants must fall into one of the two following categories related to their police academy certification:
- Applicant has a valid Oregon DPSST Basic Level Certification or higher.
- Applicant has a lapsed Oregon DPSST certification and is eligible to reactivate their certificate per DPSST rules.
- Must pass all phases of the examination process, which may include an oral and written exam, interviews, comprehensive background investigation, psychological test, and medical examinations.
- Must be able to obtain an Oregon State Police Criminal Justice Information Systems clearance upon hiring.
Additional Desirable Qualifications:
- Previous college level training
- Prior law-enforcement employment in Central Oregon
- Familiarity with the Black Butte Ranch community and surrounding area
- Any additional law enforcement related skills, training, or certifications that the candidate would be willing to utilize at the Black Butte Ranch Police Department.
